Natural Recovery: Pain Transforms, 2022

“With seemingly interchangeable living and painted plants, the paintings in this installation serve as portals to a vibrant yet pensive tropical place. The Puerto Rican inspired landscapes are fragmented by collaged elements and by the fully rendered versus the washed away instances that convey the inconsistent nature and fragility of memories and our psychological states. Loneliness, memory loss, emotional overload, natural disasters, the global pandemic, nature as a wounded healer, its resilience, and post-traumatic growth are all themes considered in the work. Through the physicality of painting and material exploration, I process, communicate and alleviate my mental discomfort and recreate spaces my state of mind has deprived me from mindfully enjoying, symptoms of the fast-paced distressing time we live in.”
